The Starlight
An Art Deco platinum, diamond and star sapphire ring, circa 1925
The ring centering a cabochon-cut star sapphire weighing approximately 16.00 carats, flanked by baguette and single-cut diamonds, circa 1925,
ring size 52, gross weight 6.6 grams, mounted in platinum.
Asterism in star sapphires is a natural effect that causes a star to appear on the surface of the stone when light moves across it. This star is formed by tiny rutile inclusions inside the sapphire and becomes visible when the gem is cut en cabochon. The result is a subtle, shifting six-rayed star that gives the stone depth, character, and a quiet sense of wonder.
